The RDT Story
RDT was founded nearly 28 years ago by three 20-something friends working in two cramped rooms above a fish and chip shop in Bromley, in south east London. Now we have more than 100 staff working in spacious, custom-designed headquarters in Kings Hill, West Malling, and in offices in Halifax and Adelaide. In 1996 we developed the first website where customers could buy insurance from multiple providers. This was six years before the launch of the first price comparison website. Sadly for us our site was too ahead of its time – not many people had home computers in 1996!
How we work
RDT designs and builds its products using agile methodology. Software engineers, testers and a manager collaborate in teams of six or seven in two-week sprints to produce tranches of finished code. All stages of software construction, testing and deployment is automated, leading to faster, more dependable development. This enables the quick launch of products as customers can begin generating income with a ‘bare bones’ version of a system months before they would if they waited for the whole thing to be finished. This style of working encourages innovation and helps developers to write accurate, bug-free code quickly.
Research and development
We reinvest 30 per cent of our turnover into research and development, including the latest tools and techniques to keep our products leading edge and our staff motivated. We have been a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner since 2005.
